Out here in the heartlands and not too far away from nature too. But did you know that this area, along with the now pricey Bukit Timah – used to be targeted for industrialization from way back to the early days of our republic? Some might know the old Ford factory is along upper Bukit Timah… (another MRT station post some day).
Wow. If that had come through, then Bukit Timah would not have been a coveted address! But then we digress, as we are focused on Bukit Batok.
But then “Batok” here is not an abberation of buttock, so don’t get any ideas! But we aren’t sure if it really means coughing hill either… anyone’s got another version of how the name came about?
Part of the MRT series here.
Thanks for these. Very useful and interesting indeed.

p.s. re the kitty and her clipped ear: we have the same program for feral cats here in the USA, although its use varies with localities. Many animal rescue organizations will (humanely) trap feral cats, take them to their shelters to be neutered or spayed and given rabies shots and then their ears will be clipped so that they won’t be rounded up again for the same treatment. Then they are returned to the location they were found in, because quite often these cats live in colonies with each other where they have established home bases, much like us humans! 🙂

Sounds exactly like what the animal welfare groups do here too. But this one’s very friendly. She came up to Mel and was posing like a model!

I really like the park connector under the overpass! We are starting to develop such connectors for wildlife (as well as people LOL), so that they can access their entire designated ranges without being mowed down by cars (and cars being totalled by large wild animals like deer). But there aren’t many of them yet.
Although here in the USA we like to think of ourselves as being so forward-thinking and -acting, I find that the more I learn about other countries, the more room for improvement I see here in my own! 😉

Perhaps in our little red dot (little?) it would be easier to implement. Plus we have intentions for more intense public transport lines such as the metro, so it helps. And indeed these connectors have become synonymous with morning exercise for many people!

I almost had an all-expenses paid trip to your “little red dot” about 6 or 8 years ago. A gentleman I knew only online wanted to meet me there and even allowed me to pick out the hotel, where we would have separate rooms, or even two different hotels. My airfare and all other expenses would be paid by him. But I chickened out. Then the next year I found out that another woman friend of mine, who I have met in real life (she lives in another city in my state) did accept his offer and had a wonderful time. He was the Complete Gentleman, she said. Oh well. I should have gone with the opportunity. I did lots of research on Singapore in the lead-up to the almost trip and found out so many fascinating things about it… ❤

Oh yeah? Wow. That’s intriguing. All hallmarks of a potential scam isn’t it? But that it wasn’t!
If that gentleman were to offer again would you jump at it?

I think I would, but I also believe it was a one-time thing, which this other woman took the opportunity to have. Oh well. 😛

Yeah, she’s our favorite too and you might have noticed here featured a few times. Did you notice something about her ears?

We had a cat like that as a kid… a tomcat that lost a lot of battles and came home with pieces missing, Suan. I have a story coming up on him, but no photos. –Curt

Oh well this one’s because she had been neutered and indicated with the clipped left ear. We have many strays on the island, but culling would have resulted in a severe public backlash, so suppose that is what is thought of as a second best solution…

Good idea, albeit adding injury to insult. 🙂 Now we’ve neutered you, we are going to cut your ear off! –Curt

Well, it is to help the animal welfare folks identify the ones that had already gone through that…

Two things I love spotted here. One is the outdoor fitness area in parks. I’ve seen these in HK, China, Taiwan and Thailand and I wish we had those in the west. Second one is the casual coffee / dining spots. I love these kind of places 🙂 Oh and poor kitty 😦

If there is one thing that seems to becoming ubiquitous is – they are springing up all over the housing estates we have here. Fitness corners for the young ones and separate ones for the elderly.
And that’s a cute cat we like very much. She was such a model posing readily for pictures.
