Happy New Year! It’s 2017.
Dear friends, ex-colleagues,
Can you imagine that? Barely one year ago, we started this blog. And we also begun to place our quarterly newsletter here instead of sending the PDF file out to you. What was the original intent? Well to be terribly honest, it was to drive some readership traffic to this blog in its infancy. LOL.
So what’s up?
Finally did a road trip in Thailand (driving that is). Now that was a real milestone, which means…we’ll do this all over the rest of the country as well! And a new corner of Korea has been touched – Busan! We can almost compare the two cities (Seoul & Busan) to Tokyo vs Osaka. Perhaps not a fair comparison to some, but that’s our 2 cents! And rushing out this post today, we have just returned from the biting cold of Harbin 3 days ago! Fingers still twitching…
Read our latest newsletter here: The Long Journey Q1-2017.
It’s time to make some travel resolutions for 2017. What will yours be? For us, we intend to:
- Touch Petra, Jordan
- Walk arond Havana, Cuba
- Do a drive around Hua Hin
Wish us luck (please?). For now this will do, as we cannot commit too much since these are already ambitious touch points. We are looking forward to a travel filled 2017! Hope you will too!
That was an aggressive plan!

You are the inspiration to travel. I really always enjoy reading about the places we have never visited. But your posts make us feel that we are exactly there. Great travelers and bloggers you are ❤

It was interesting reading about your travels along the great ocean road – you were indeed blessed by the weather. The majority of winter’s days would not look like that! I have not seen it from the air – looks like a great vantage point.

Yes we were more than just lucky, the weather was fine and the roads clear. We had virtually nobody else to share the view with. It was like a private tour!

Good reason to come in Winter – but only if you are lucky with the weather!

Our 2017 is going to be a lot less adventurous travel-wise than 2016 and 2017. As we are moving back to our hometown, I would like to explore that a little more. Hopefully look at Melbourne and Victoria in the same way we have looked at and explored BC and the west coast. Looking forward to hearing about your travels. I know nothing about the places you are going to, so should be enlightening 🙂

Oh u are headed back to Melb? Wow that’s a very liveable city! Yes, exploring your own “backyard” is something we all should do. Because we tend to “neglect” the ones closest to us!

Yep, in less than two weeks. Ahhhh!!

We like active travels..bike or walk but really I prefer walk because it is easier to take photos. After doing the Camino in Spain ( St James way) we want to experience it also in France…

Would that be the one that goes to Lourdes?

the trails starts in different cities. I am thinking mostly of the trail from Le Puy-en-Velais. I don’t think it passes by Lourdes. I am not a religious person. I don’t really thin going to Lourdes is a big deal for me. I like to walk and visit other countries.

Well, we only issue this once every 3 months. So there is some time to pull this together. Try it, we are sure you can do it too!

Ah, thank you for your faith in me. I don’t want to sound negative… but when I am able to post a trip within the month of taking it, then I can consider. Currently, I’m not managing posting a trip within the same year. Hahaha!

Mel: well, perhaps if you collect the articles first and when you have sufficient material you can start. That’s how we accumulated articles. The blog did not start until early last year though we had been writing for quite many years! And today we can only post once every 2 days. There is just so much to do in daily life.

I find it easier to post on my Thoughts blog as posts don’t need pics. The Travel blog posts take time as I take high resolution pics and I don’t have a proper photo editor (also reads “not motivated to learn an editor) to do my resizing and adding the copyright line on each of the numerous photos I use.. maybe I should choose less… but so hard. I’ll keep practicing.. it makes perfect, apparently, right?
Thanks so much for your suggestions and tips. I’d really love to do a newsletter. As a teenager, my dream was to have my own monthly teen magazine 😆

Actually there is the Microsoft Office Picture Manager. You can open all of the pictures in a folder, select them all and resize, crop, made smaller etc. It is just a few clicks. Ofcourse you need to save them before exiting, but it is really easy. Perhaps try that?

I had that before until hubby decided to give me A newer version… I think. Which Office (year)?

We have the office 2007. But it comes with earlier versions too. Just that when you install MS office you need to select it. Do not think it is pat of the default selection.

Many thanks! We started this many years back as a way to keep in touch with friends and former colleagues who had become friends. Back in the day we did not have a blog and so there was enough time over 3 months each time to prepare something more detailed. Sounds like you enjoyed reading the newsletter. Thanks once again!
